Why is the new Rigid Track System an improvement over the flexible spacer in the old kits?
The new Rigid Track System offers much greater stability in the assembly stage. It speeds construction and is easier to work with.
What else was changed with the installation of the silicone system?
There are two major changes:
A) The top perimeter channel is cut lengthwise with half of the channel installed with silicone sealant in a final step. It is much easier to install the final top row of block this way.
B) We now recommend that the striking tool (spoon) be used only to scoop out excess sealant. The back of the "spoon" is not used to smooth joints. The elimination of this step greatly improves the look of the silicone joints.
Do accessories for the silicone system come in kits?
Yes. The accessories (i.e., plastic spacer, sealant, etc.) are available in kits for the Thinline™ Series glass block. Each kit contains 3 pieces of 36" track, 12 pieces of 7-3/4" vertical spacer, striking tool, glass block sealant, and installation instructions. The 36" pieces are also sold individually. As well, the 7-3/4" vertical spacers are sold in packages of five. The perimeter channel is not included in any kit and is sold separately.
When should a kit be purchased versus buying individual pieces (or packs in the case of vertical spacers)?
Kits will typically represent the most economical way to purchase Rigid Track. Also, consumers must purchase a minimum of one kit in order to get the striking tool. Even through this tool looks like a common spoon, the tip is designed to fit the silicone joints and the spoon design is the most efficient way to remove excess silicone. Individual Rigid Track pieces are purchased to supplement a kit. For example, if a panel calls for 20 8"x8" blocks, the most economical way to purchase Rigid Track is one kit, one piece of 36" track, and one package of vertical spacers.
Can glass block, other than Pittsburgh Corning glass block, be used with the KWiK'N EZ® system?
The KWiK'N EZ® system was designed and tested exclusively for use with Pittsburgh Corning glass block. Dimension characteristics and product composition of other glass blocks may prove incompatible with the KWiK'N EZ® Silicone System of installation.
Can I use the silicone system for any glass block type of applications?
Normally, the silicone system is limited to straight flat walls or windows, and to walls or windows that are framed and anchored on all four sides. However, panels with one free edge no longer than 6' in length may be supported on three sides. The free edge is typically finished with the 4"x8"x3" EndBlockÔ unit or by adhering cut pieces of matching ceramic tile.
How large of a panel can I make using the silicone system?
We suggest a maximum area of no more than 25 square feet for exterior windows and no more than 85 square feet for interior applications.
How do I determine the rough opening for the silicone system?
Use the following chart which shows rough opening sizes for different sizes of glass block. Use this chart to determine both the width and height of the opening.

The vertical spacers are precut for 8" high block. What do I use for other block heights of 4" or 6"?
Vertical spacers for other than 8" high block can be created by either straight cutting or cope cutting a piece of spacer.
What is the thickness of the silicone joint?
The joint is about 1/8" thick.
How large of an area can I silicone seal and still be able to strike the joints at one time without worrying about the sealant reaching its initial set?
As a rule of thumb, approximately every 3 square feet per side should suffice.
Note: Installation instructions are included in every KWiK'N EZ® Rigid Track Kit
